Pravara Institute of Medical Sciences In order to further its three primary areas of focus—medical treatment, teaching, and research—PIMS Loni, one of Maharashtra's most esteemed private medical colleges, has promoted international collaboration in each of these areas. It has NMC clearance and ties with the University of Pune and Maharashtra University of Health Sciences in Nashik. Pravara Medical College is acknowledged by both the General Medical Council of the United Kingdom and the World Health Organization in Geneva. In a small, remote village called Loni in the Ahmednagar District (Maharashtra State), Padmashree Dr. Vitthalrao Vikhe Patil, the father of the Indian cooperative movement, and Padmabhushan Dr. Balasaheb Vikhe Patil, a distinguished politician and former union minister, established the parent company, Pravara Medical Trust, in 1972.

According to Section 3 of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act 1956, the Government of India, Ministry of Human Resource Development established Pravara Institute of Medical Sciences University on September 29, 2003, by its notification No. F.9-11/2000-U-3. Pravara Medical College is a centre of excellence with a concentration on the medical and health sciences with an emphasis on delivering socially relevant medical education, healthcare, and research.
